Jean Emans Lectureship

This lectureship has been designated in honor of Dr. Jean Emans to highlight an essential topic in Adolescent Medicine. Dr. Jean Emans has an extensive medical career that encompasses adolescent health, pediatric and adolescent gynecology, and medical education. She serves as co-author/ editor of one of the sentinel Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology textbooks. Her career has been known for advocacy for diversity at Harvard Medical School, young women’s health, and women’s career development as well as advocacy for the field of pediatric and adolescent gynecology.

Dr Emans has served as President of the North American Society of Pediatrics and Adolescent Gynecology and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine. She was the Program Director of the Boston Children’s Hospital Leadership Education in Adolescent Health (LEAH) Training Program, one of seven Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB/HRSA) funded LEAH programs in the United States (1992-2022). She was a member of the first Sub-board of Adolescent Medicine of the American Board of Pediatrics and the American Board of Internal Medicine and has served on three committees of the American Board of Pediatrics.

She is the author of several textbooks, including Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, co-author of multiple websites, including Pedicases, Young Women’s Health, Young Men’s Health, and Boston LEAH, and has co-authored more than 180 publications.

Dr. Emans is  the recipient of the 2009 William Silen Lifetime Achievement in Mentoring Award from Harvard Medical School and the 2011 Outstanding Achievement in Adolescent Medicine Award from the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine (the highest honor in adolescent medicine), the 2020 HMS Diversity Lifetime Achievement Award, and the 2022 Joseph B. Martin Dean’s Leadership Award for the Advancement of Women Faculty awarded by the Dean’s Committee and the HMS Joint Committee on the Status of Women.
